Scotland County is the smallest county in North Carolina, but we're rich in history and full of Southern charm. Located in the Sandhills region, Scotland County is less than 100 miles away from the Charlotte and Raleigh metro areas.

The state of North Carolina is often cited as one of the best places to live and work. Scotland County has a strong work force, low costs of doing business, and a growing business community. The recreational opportunities and scenery are both outstanding.

Also, we're building the Small Business Innovation Center to attract entrepreneurs and startups. There will be plenty of office space and classrooms offering training and seminars on entrepreneurship.

Starting a Business in Scotland County

If you're going to operate your business as a sole proprietorship or general partnership, contact the Scotland County Register of Deeds office. They're open from 8 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. You can call them at 910-277-2577.

If you plan on forming a Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership, or LLP, you can contact the Corporations Division of the North Carolina Secretary of State. Their phone number is 919-807-2225.
